As an athlete, it is always a great feeling to look up in the stands and see that you have people there cheering you on and being there for you. Whether it is family, friends, or just members of the community, it can go a long way to have support. Holden Moxley has a couple of people who fit that bill and have helped him grow as a person and as an athlete.
“My mom and dad are always there for me,” he said. “Whether it’s supporting me on the golf course or shaping me to become a great young man. I would not be who I am today without them by my side.”
Holden is a senior at Perry High School, where he is a member of the golf team. While he could have a lot of famous people that he looks up to, he says that there are a couple of people a little closer to home who have made a big impact on him.
“Seeing my dad get up every day, working as hard as he can, motivates me to wake up and try my hardest,” he said. “Also, Coach Bengs has been such an inspiration to look up to throughout my high school career. He has taught me how to be a more accountable person and learning how to be okay with life whenever it gets hard.”
It can take a lot of work to be a successful athlete. This is something that Holden has learned over his career.
“To be a good golfer, you have to be willing to put in hours upon hours perfecting every little detail,” he stated. “I also have great teammates who have helped me become better. I always like to play my guy, Sawyer. He is always pushing me to get better and better.”
As a student athlete, Holden knows that his education takes precedence over anything else, including golf. He says that being able to balance both is something that he has found easy to do.
“Making sure school is taken care of before anything has made things very easy for me,” he said.
With his senior year coming to a close, Moxley is ready to start the next chapter in his life, and it will not be too far from the golf course. He will be attending the University of Central Oklahoma in the fall to major in their Professional Golf Management program.
