High school athletes put in a lot of time and effort into becoming the best they can be at their sport. Along with that work, they also have to make sure and put in adequate time towards their class work so they can stay eligible and are able to compete. Brooklenn Moses has worked out a system that works for her and ensures she is able to play.
“Time management and patience are key to balancing school work and athletics,” she said. “Anytime I have down time I have away from sports, I use it for homework and studying. Some of those days can be slow and that leads me to rush through my work, but I always have to tell myself to be patient and to take my time.”
Brooklenn is a junior at Perry High School. She is a member of the Maroons’ softball, basketball, and track teams. Away from sports, she is also a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, Art Honors Society, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
While it takes a lot of physical work, Moses says that it takes more than that to be her best.
“It takes 110% effort, dedication, and hard work to be successful,” she said. “But, playing sports isn’t just physical. It’s also mental. Things will go wrong. That’s just a part of the game. You need to have a strong and positive mindset in order to be the best you can be.”
Throughout her life, there have been many people that have had an impact on Brooklenn’s life. She says that she is who she is today because of them.
“My oldest sister, Stylest, is my biggest influence because she always pushes me to be the best,” she said. “Also, all my coaches in general have been my best teachers. They always push me to be the best and they motivate me to work harder and be the best I can be.”
