Perkins-Tryon’s Wyatt Atkinson – Football Spotlight

Perkins-Tryon senior Wyatt Atkinson is the kind of student-athlete every school hopes to have, talented, humble, and fiercely loyal to his team and community. A three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track, Wyatt has spent his entire athletic career representing P-T with pride.

On the football field, Wyatt lines up as a running back and defensive back, though he’s played just about every position at some point. His work ethic, grit, and passion for the game are driven by a higher purpose. “God is my main motivator,” he says. “I try to keep Him in my mind during everything, especially when it gets hard.”

That mindset extends beyond sports. Wyatt takes just as much pride in his academics, calling the team’s Academic State Championship one of the biggest highlights of his career. “Being a student is often overlooked. Some people struggle just to get through high school, so to earn the highest GPA among all 3A football teams is something I’ll never forget.”

His parents have been his biggest role models, providing everything he’s needed while teaching him what it means to be strong, faithful, and kind. He also credits English teacher Mrs. Sarah Jackson, who has shown him nothing but love and encouragement over the past three years.

In practice, Wyatt enjoys competing against teammate David Mendoza, who pushes him daily and holds him accountable. And when game day rolls around, beating rival Cushing is always extra special after 11 years of matchups.

While Wyatt often gets recognition on the field, he’s quick to spotlight his offensive line. “They don’t get the glory, but without them, nothing happens,” he says.

Beyond athletics, Wyatt stays involved on campus as a member of the yearbook staff and is often seen supporting other school events. He values the tight-knit nature of his small-town community and takes pride in representing it every time he steps onto the field.

With faith as his foundation and a strong team behind him, Wyatt Atkinson is leaving a legacy of leadership, integrity, and heart at Perkins-Tryon.
