Goals are a great motivator to get us where we want to be. They give us something to work towards and help us stay focused. Landry Shepherd says that seeing people do what she hopes to do is something that helps her.
“What motivates me is when I see D1 college softball players doing what they love knowing it’s exactly what I want to do,” she said. “So, I have to strive to be just as good and put in an astronomical amount of time.”
A sophomore at Perkins-Tryon High School, Landry plays shortstop for the school’s softball team. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Throughout her career, Shepherd has put in a lot of time and effort to get to where she is today. And throughout that time, she has seen her hard work pay off on the field.
“Being successful in my sport has taken a lot of work every single day whether it’s just going to the cage to get cuts in, doing small fielding drills in the cage, or going to the field and having my dad hit me ground balls till I’m satisfied,” she said. “I think the highlight of my high school career so far was probably when we were at Washington for slow pitch regionals, and I made the last out to advance to state.”
Competing for her school is important to Landry and not something that she takes for granted.
“Being able to represent Perkins-Tryon is such an honor,” she said proudly. “Our school is pretty big on sports, so being able to perform with ‘Perkins Tryon’ on my chest will always be a blessing for me.”
Being successful on the field is important to Shepherd, but she knows that to be able to compete, she has to be just as successful in the classroom.
“Being able to balance your schoolwork and your activities during season is really important,” Landry said. “It can be very difficult sometimes but I always make sure to keep my grades up.”
