Perkins-Tryon’s Cale Collum
Perkins-Tryon High School’s Cale Collum is a senior shooting guard on the varsity
basketball team, a baseball player in the spring and a member of the FFA chapter at school.
Collum said he first joined FFA in middle school. “I first joined FFA as soon as I could which was 8th grade. I was ready to be involved with the FFA chapter and always loved agriculture,” Collum said.
Basketball is a sport Collum has played his entire life. His passion for the game is obvious
when you see him play, but Collum also loves being around his teammates.
“The thing I love most about this team and the teammates that I play with is that we have
each other’s back no matter what happens. We play well as a team and hustle and give
effort for each other,” Collum said. This season Collum said he is looking forward to his final year of prep basketball. What comes after is still a bit of a mystery. “I am looking forward to playing with my teammates one more year and giving it everything we have for one last season together. Most of us seniors on the court have been playing together since little league and it just means a-lot to be with them throughout our
journey,” said Collum. “I’m not 100 percent sure what I will be doing after high school. I
would like to attend Oklahoma State University with a major in agriculture business. Or I
would like to learn a trade and go into the work force.”
FFA has prepared Collum for his future. The activities and lessons are something he will
lean on as a college student. “Through FFA I have been involved in showing cattle along with Ag mechanics where we build projects and help the community with whatever is in need,” Collum said.
As for inspiration? Collum finds it in someone he has been close to his entire life.
“My dad definitely inspires me the most out of anyone. He has provided many life lessons to
me over the years. He teaches me that if I want something in life I’m going to have to get up
and work for it. One thing he preaches that will stay with me forever is that no one can
control your attitude or effort but yourself! I strive to be like him every day of my life.”
