Carney’s Remington Martin-Athlete Spotlight- Presented by Thompson’s Insurance Agency

Remington Martin is carving out his role as a rising guard at Carney High School, bringing energy, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose to the court. A junior who splits time at point guard and shooting guard, Martin continues to grow into a leader for his team, fueled by the support system that has shaped both his game and his mindset.

Much of that motivation starts at home. Encouraging messages from his mom and papa before games help center him and remind him of the confidence others have in his ability. That belief has been reinforced over the years by two key figures in his life, his older brother and his papa. Watching his brother play while he was younger sparked his love for the game and gave him something to strive toward, while his papa has provided steady support and a sense of humor that keeps things balanced through the ups and downs of competition.

Martin’s development at the high school level was influenced early by his freshman coach, who helped him adjust to the speed and physicality of varsity basketball. Through consistent guidance and extra attention to detail, Martin refined his jump shot and learned the importance of being pushed beyond his comfort zone. That lesson has carried over into his daily routine, where time in the gym and weight room remains a priority. His approach is simple, put in the work, take quality reps, and compete at full effort every time he steps on the floor.

One of the defining moments of his career came during a tournament game against Oilton, when he erupted for more than 40 points, showcasing his scoring ability and confidence under pressure. Still, Martin values the everyday battles just as much, especially in practice. Competing against a taller teammate like Lukas has helped him become more physical and sharpen his ability to handle tough matchups.

Off the court, Martin stays grounded through his involvement in FCA and by focusing on academics, understanding that discipline in the classroom creates opportunities in athletics. He also takes pride in his team’s identity, recognizing the importance of players who do the little things, like a teammate known for defensive effort and relentless hustle.

Representing Carney means more than just playing basketball for Martin. Seeing his hometown show up in support adds an extra layer of pride and responsibility, pushing him to give his best every time he steps onto the court.
