2024 Perry Maroons Football Preview – Presented by First Bank and Trust Company

PERRY MAROONS

Coach: TRAVIS COLE

6-4

OFFENSE

The Maroons are coming off of a solid season from a year ago that saw them fall just short of making it into the postseason. Perry head coach Travis Cole, who is in his ninth season of leading the program, has a good group coming back this season and is ready for the season to get underway. “We have a bunch of experience returning this year,” Cole said. “We will lean on our big senior class to lead us to achieving our goals for the season.” After a solid performance last season, Whelan Carson (6-5, 210, Sr.) is back at wide receiver. He brought in 54 catches for 1,115 yards and ten touchdowns last season and is currently getting some looks to possibly play at the next level. In the backfield, Asher Robinson will look to move the ball at running back. He had 126 yards on 29 carries last year with a touchdown. He also added in 22 receiving yards and another score. He will look to make a bigger impact this season. Jackson Stoops is a hard worker and is ready to help his team in any way that he can. Coach Cole said of Stoops, “He always works the hardest and kind of flies under the radar, but Jackson is always a guy that we count on and need.”

DEFENSE

The focus of the Maroons’ defense will be flying to the ball. Leading that charge will be Carson at linebacker. He ended last season with a total of 128 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and a couple of sacks. Robinson registered 10 tackles during his freshman year, and he will look to make a bigger impact this season. One of the guys that does not seek out the spotlight but still is a solid player on the team is Gunnar Farrar. He puts in the work necessary and is always ready to help his team in whatever way he can.
