Tonkawa’s Henley Hembree – Presented by Stillwater Medical Center of Tonkawa

Henley Hembree is a sophomore at Tonkawa High School. She is involved in basketball, cheer, track, extended studies, and the National Honor Society. Henley got her start in sports from her three older sisters. She grew up watching them playing basketball, cheering and running track, and decided that she wanted to follow in their footsteps. They are her biggest role models. They all put a lot of effort into their sports and showed Henley that she wanted to aim high as well. When she was younger, she was their biggest fan. Now that she’s in sports, they are hers. Henley’s biggest positive impact is her mom. She’s been at all of Henley’s meets. “When I am racing, she is the only voice that I can hear, and it always pushes me to finish strong,” she says.

In her free time, Henley likes to take her dog on walks, hang out with her sisters, and get Starbucks. Henley’s favorite subject in school is math, because she enjoys the challenge of solving problems. Her favorite teacher is Mr. Fath, because he is willing to go the distance to make sure his students are learning and improving. After high school, Henley plans to attend college, getting a degree in a field that keeps her involved in sports.

Henley has previously qualified for the state track meet and came in second, as well as receiving honorable mention in the 89er All Conference this year. Her favorite moment was when her team got to compete in the Meet of Champions last year. Sports have taught Henley the importance of staying positive. “Every athlete is going to experience failure, but how you respond is what matters the most,” she says. She says that it takes heart, confidence, and consistency to be a great athlete. When things get tough, she gives her worries and struggles to God. Her advice to other athletes is not to let regrets weigh you down, and to always stay positive.
