Q&A with Ponca City’s Jaycee Davis – Presented by Tom Henley Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What grade are you in and what sports do you play?

Davis: I am a junior at Ponca City High School. I run cross country and track, but I’ve previously played soccer and basketball.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?

Davis: A positive attitude can go a long way. If you act like you don’t want to be somewhere, you won’t enjoy your time there but if you make the most of it you can come out of it having the most fun.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Davis: Gaby Alva has been my rock all season from when I was running at state to when I was struggling to get back in shape. Each time she’s there to encourage me and she also pushes me like crazy to be the best me that I can be. I am truly thankful for not just her but every one of my teammates.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Davis: Sha’Carri Richardson because she was always confident in herself even when she was struggling as an athlete she still stayed positive and showed confidence.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Davis: That would have to be Mrs. Klein because she never failed to have a positive attitude no matter how mad she could have been over any situation, she never failed to think the best of it. She not only helped me in the classroom but also in life

VYPE: Who inspires you?

Davis: My teammates and coaches inspire me in so many ways. Watching each of my friends push themselves through the heat and encourage everyone around them is so inspiring and my coaches striving to make each of us better even if it’s with tough love shows how much all of us really care about each other.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Davis: Get out of your head, so much of what’s holding you back is just yourself. Never think of your limits because if you put limits on yourself you’ll never break them and you’ll always feel less than what you actually are.

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?

Davis: I am the Historian of the Student Council. I’m also the Social Media Chair of the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). I’m in the orchestra. I play the violin and I’m learning the drums to be a part of St. Luke’s youth band.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Davis: Big thanks to my parents for always supporting me and driving me around. I know my schedule was crazy but you always put up with it. I love you guys. The biggest of thank yous to Ms. Lorin Scott. She is always there for me no matter how crazy I sounded and the person I look up to most in life I love you. My coaches you guys never gave up on me even when I gave up on myself sometimes you never did. Burt Miner supported me my entire freshman season when I was so scared and nervous he showed me that there was no reason to be and there’s so many bigger things than just this.
