Ponca City High Schools, sophomore Theaden Leigh, is no stranger to what it takes to be a strong athlete. Theaden brings energy, focus, and grit to everything he does, whether he’s making tackles on the football field, soaring in the long jump pit, or representing his school through student council and theater.
As a starting varsity linebacker and running back, Theaden thrives under pressure and plays wherever his team needs him. His commitment doesn’t stop with football, he’s a varsity sprinter and long jumper in track, has competed in basketball and wrestling, and is trying out for the swim team this year. “Each sport teaches me something new,” he says. “They’ve helped shape who I am mentally and physically.”
His biggest motivator? “Creating a better future for myself,” he says. That drive is deeply influenced by his parents, especially his father, who coached him through much of his football journey. “He taught me to let my actions speak louder than words,” Theaden says.
One of his most memorable moments came during freshman year when he earned his first varsity sack and jumped an impressive 22’1” at a freshman track meet. But Theaden isn’t just about athletics—he’s passionate about learning, especially in math, thanks to an early teacher, Miss Tompkins, who recognized his potential.
Outside of sports, Theaden is a long-time member of student council and a performer in the local Theater Academy, with nine productions under his belt. Balancing academics, athletics, and extracurriculars takes “patience and discipline,” he admits, but it’s all part of his larger goal, attending Oklahoma State University and playing football at the next level.
To Theaden, representing Ponca City means never giving up. “This town is about perseverance,” he says. “Win or lose, you give it everything you have.” With his work ethic, leadership, and passion for his community, there’s no doubt Theaden Leigh is one to watch.
