Throughout our lives, we have people that are influential and play a role in us becoming who we are. While some people see celebrities and professional athletes as people to look up to, Rheagan Bohon prefers people that are a little closer to home.
“My grandma would be my role model because she always encouraged me to play tennis because she was a really good tennis player,” she said. “Also, my mom because she is my hi-stepping coach and always pushes me to be my best and is so supportive in everything I do. A teacher that impacted me was my eighth grade English teacher because she always encouraged me and helped me to do my best.”
Bohon is a senior at Ponca City High School, where she plays tennis and is part of the Hi-Steppers. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Student Athlete Advisory Council, and a competitive dance team.
There is a lot that goes into being a competitive athlete, but the work is always worth it when you see it pay off.
“Being successful takes hard work, dedication, personal drive, and extra practice,” Bohon stated. “The highlights of my career would have to be winning Nationals with my hi stepping team during my sophomore year, and winning the Southmoor tennis tournament a few weeks ago.”
As a student-athlete, Rheagan knows that she has to keep her grades up in order to compete. She says that making sure she has a plan helps her to be successful.
“I always have to prioritize my time and have set days that I work on specific things,” she said.
Being able to represent her school when she competes is something that Rheagan is proud to do.
“Ponca city has always been my home,” she said. “So being successful and representing my town well is something I strive for.”
When she is not practicing her sports or working on school work, Rheagan likes to catch up on her social media accounts.
“My favorite follow is the Ohio State dance team because they are national champions and I love to watch them.”
