The sound of pencils scratching across paper and the quiet hum of problem-solving are familiar rhythms in Jill Klein’s classroom at Ponca City High School. Whether she’s guiding freshmen through their first geometry proofs or challenging seniors in calculus, Klein brings a steady presence and genuine enthusiasm for learning that students quickly recognize.
Now in her seventh year at PoHi, Klein teaches geometry and Pre-AP geometry to freshmen and sophomores, while also leading seniors through the rigor of calculus. Her teaching journey began at Ponca City Christian Academy, where she developed a strong foundation in connecting with students and finding creative ways to explain complex material. For Klein, teaching is the perfect blend of things she loves: working with kids, solving math problems, and figuring out how to present concepts so they truly make sense.
Her own teachers played a significant role in shaping that passion. One of her most influential educators was her father, who taught her American history in high school and set a lasting example of excellence in the classroom. Another was her chemistry teacher, Mr. Zerger, who inspired Klein to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. Those experiences helped her understand the lasting impact a dedicated teacher can have.
What Klein enjoys most about education is building meaningful relationships with students and celebrating their successes, both academic and personal. Few moments compare, she says, to hearing a student exclaim, “Oh! I get it now!” That spark of understanding is what keeps her motivated year after year. She also believes the best advice she’s ever received as an educator is to be authentic. Teaching to her strengths, rather than trying to fit a mold, has allowed her to create an environment where students feel supported and confident.
Outside the classroom, Klein enjoys spending time with her husband, Tim, and their adult children, Gabe and Bethany. She loves traveling, staying active through jogging, walking, and hiking, and catching up with family and friends. Those moments help her recharge and return to the classroom with fresh energy.
Through her dedication, approachability, and love of learning, Jill Klein continues to make a meaningful difference at Ponca City High School, one lesson, one relationship, and one “aha” moment at a time.
