High school athletes work hard so they are able to compete at their highest level. But to be able to even step foot out on the court or field, they have to make sure they are completing their work and getting good grades. Beth Schickram says that as a parent, it is important to make sure the students know what their priorities are.
“The hardest part of being the parent of an athlete is making sure their grades are what they are supposed to be,” she said. “Second hardest would be making sure that they are getting the right nutrition for their sport to succeed and excel in that given sport.”
Beth is the mother of Colt Schickram, a sophomore at Ponca City High School. Colt is a member of the football, wrestling, and track teams. She is proud to have her kids in the Ponca City school system, and she says she loves how the community supports their student-athletes.
“Ponca City High School has been a good fit for our boys academically and for sports,” she said. “Colt’s football coaches have been some of the best coaches we have encountered. We are proud to be Ponca City Wildcats. The Ponca City community has some of the best people and businesses. Ponca City football could not function without the support of our community.”
Beth is the owner/manager of a local marina, and she also does the books for her husband’s dirt work business. She also serves as the vice president of the Ponca City Quarterback Club. When she is not working, she has a lot of ways she enjoys spending her time.
“I enjoy doing things for my kids and their friends,” she said. “I help with feeding football players on Thursday nights before Friday night games.”
Being involved as best she can is important to Beth and something she is proud to do.
“I help anywhere any of the coaches need me,” she said. “From feeding kids, to feeding coaches, to decorating locker rooms, cleaning up, whatever I am needed for, I will do. I have two adult sons that I was involved in their sports as well. So, I’ve been an involved parent for over 20 years.”
