Ponca City’s Allison Edwards – Presented by Equity Bank

Wearing their school uniform and colors when they compete is something that can be special to high school student athletes. It reminds them that they are playing for more than just themselves. Allison Edwards says that she is proud to compete for Ponca City.

“Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat is very special to my family,” she said. “That is because of the many generations that attended PoHi before me. Getting to represent the same school they did is very special.”

Edwards is in her senior year at Ponca City High School. She serves as the co-captain of the varsity volleyball team, Lieutenant of the Po Hi-Steppers, Representative of Student Council, senior class vice president. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Athlete Advisory Council, varsity tennis player, and worship leader at St. Luke’s Nazarene.

Being involved in multiple sports requires a lot of dedication and work for Allison to be successful. But she says that the work has also led to memorable moments in her career.

“It takes a lot of discipline, work ethic, late nights, early mornings, and a good support system behind me,” she said. “The highlight of my career would have to be winning nationals my sophomore year with the steppers.”

Edwards has people in her life that have helped her become a better person and athlete.

“Two people that have had a big impact on me would be Libby Frees and Neil Stangeland,” she said. “They have shown me the true light of Christ and how to be a disciple. Also, Lorin Scott is one of the best role models I have ever had because of her amazing work ethic, kindness, and great sportsmanship.”

As a student, Edwards has also had teachers that have been influential in her life and helped her become a better learner.

“My two favorite teachers would be Mr. McCrary and Mrs. Collenback,” she said. “They have been so kind and I have learned that asking questions is okay.
