Allison Duncan has made her mark on Ponca City High School’s volleyball team as a dominant middle blocker. For Allison, the thrill of the sport comes from the fierce competition that pushes her to improve every single day. “Volleyball is so competitive, and that drives me to give my best in every practice and every game,” she says.
Her inspiration comes from fellow athlete Harper Murray, whose resilience and determination on the court mirror Allison’s own approach to the game. “Seeing how she overcomes challenges off the court and still gives her all every game motivates me to do the same,” Allison explains. She also credits Coach Hinterreiter with having a profound influence on her life, both on and off the court. “She’s always pushing me to reach my potential and encouraging me even when things aren’t going my way,” Allison says.
Success in volleyball doesn’t come easily. Allison, who is in her senior year, points to the countless hours spent at workouts, staying focused during practice, and making the most of every moment on the court. Her dedication has paid off, and one of her most memorable highlights came during her first varsity game. “Scoring my first point in a varsity match was incredible, it was a switch that flipped in me, and the excitement of that moment is unforgettable,” she recalls.
Rivalry games against Enid High School are some of Allison’s favorite matchups. “The intensity, the energy from the student sections, and the challenge on the court make those games so fun,” she says. She also enjoys the challenge of practicing against her teammate and libero, Logan, who pushes her to improve her court awareness and attacking skills.
Allison has a keen eye for the contributions of her teammates, noting that Keyona Moore is often underrated. “She brings so much energy, encourages everyone, and lights up the court, it’s a thrill to play with her,” Allison says.
Outside of volleyball, Allison balances her academics, basketball, track, and club volleyball, understanding that success in sports requires strong time management. “I remind myself that I can’t play in college without keeping up my education,” she says. For Allison, representing Ponca City means more than winning, it’s about reflecting the values of her school through effort, sportsmanship, and character on the court.
