Ponca City Mom – Mitzi Pemberton – Presented by the Ponca City Real Estate Co.

Parenting can be stressful and busy sometimes. No matter what age your kids are, you are still there to help them in whatever way you can. Mitzi Pemberton says that it is the same when your kid also plays sports.

“Being a parent to an athlete can be hard at times,” she said. “Knowing your child won’t always be the best on the team, or the leader of a group. But knowing I have instilled in my kids that they are as much a part of the team as anyone else is and they are just as important and have a right to voice their thoughts and opinions, respectfully. They all know that everyone on their team is important, and nobody deserves to be talked down to.”

Mitzi is the mother of three. Allison ‘Alli’ Edwards is a senior at Ponca City High School. She plays volleyball, tennis, and serves as Lieutenant for the Po Hi-Steppers. Alli is the senior class vice president, and a member of the Student Council, Student Athlete Advisory Council, and the National Honor Society. Pemberton also has two sons that are graduates of Ponca City. Taylor played football and baseball for the Wildcats, while Ethan played baseball.

Pemberton is a Registered Nurse and works in the Critical Care Unit at Integris Health Ponca City. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her kids, daughters-in-law, and granddaughters.

Along with raising kids, Mitzi knows that parents also have a responsibility to teach their children and help them become good people.

“I believe it’s important for Alli to know her priorities when it comes to her education,” she said. “She previously was on a competitive cheer team out of Stillwater, and we traveled three times a week, getting home past bedtime. She always had her homework out on the road down and back to make sure her homework was complete before going to bed. Even in high school, she’s taken homework with her to Nationals for Hi-Stepping and to out of town volleyball matches just to ensure she had everything completed and turned in on time.”
