Newkirk’s Tripper Ramey – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance- Elizabeth Hiatt Agency

Newkirk High School junior Tripper Ramey is a three-sport athlete who thrives on hard work, leadership, and pride in representing his school and community. A competitor in baseball, football, and motocross, Ramey balances his busy schedule with dedication and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

On the baseball diamond, Tripper is a versatile player who contributes as a pitcher, third baseman, and center fielder. In football, he takes on key roles as the quarterback and outside linebacker, embracing the responsibility of leading his team on both sides of the ball. For him, success in sports doesn’t come by chance, it comes from consistency. “Hard work, showing up every day, having respect, being a leader, and always doing the right thing have made me successful in my sports,” Ramey explained.

Tripper credits one teacher in particular, Makayla Jacobs (Watkins), with having the biggest impact on his life. “She pushed me to be a better person and always challenged me in the classroom every day,” he said. Her influence has shaped him not only as a student but as a young man striving to set an example.

Like most athletes, rivalries fuel his competitive spirit. Beating Blackwell is especially meaningful to Tripper, as he knows the intensity they bring whenever the two schools face off. In practice, he enjoys going head-to-head with teammate Jake West, who pushes him to perform at his best. He also admires teammate Jake Locke, calling him the team’s most underappreciated player. “He gets put all over the place and doesn’t complain,” Ramey said, recognizing Locke’s selfless attitude.

Outside of sports, Tripper is involved in Student Council and follows Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart on social media, admiring his positive attitude and resilience. Balancing athletics, academics, and leadership roles is never easy, but Tripper leans on hard work and dedication to stay grounded.

When asked what it means to represent Newkirk, his answer is simple but powerful: “Pride and dignity.” With his drive, versatility, and leadership, Tripper Ramey is proving to be a standout for the Tigers and a strong role model for his peers.
