Throughout an athlete’s career, there can be many memorable moments that they create and experience on and off the field. As a two-sport athlete, Nina Glass has a few of them that she looks back on fondly, but she has one that stands out the most.
“My highlight moment is hitting my first home run at Northern Oklahoma College with my travel team,” she said.
Glass plays softball and basketball for the Blackwell Maroons. As a junior, she serves as the class president and is also involved in the Pep Club.
While she may have days when she does not feel like putting in the work, she knows that it will help her in the long run and that helps her stay focused.
“What motivates me is knowing not everyone can do what I do,” she said. “So I take nothing for granted and push myself to my best ability.”
Nina has people in her life who have helped shape her into not just the athlete that she is, but also the person.
“One of my biggest role models is Riley Westmoreland,” Glass said. “She is a great athlete, and I love how dedicated she is to getting the job done. When it comes to teachers, I think my favorite is Mrs. Pittser. I could have had the hardest day, but I would still look forward to her class, and she could always put a smile on my face.”
Showing up and competing is one aspect of being an athlete, but before you can do that, Glass knows that it takes work to be prepared.
“My hard work outside of practice time and just pushing myself to the max is what makes me successful,” she stated. “Also, knowing that it isn’t my whole personality and that it’s okay to make mistakes.”
When she is out on the field or court competing, Nina knows she has a lot of fans in the stands cheering her and her teammates on. But she also remembers the one that is not here physically.
“I’m a huge family person,” she said. “I will always play for my Nana because I know she is still my biggest fan, even if she’s not here to do so.”
