Blackwell High School senior Alexis Landwehr has built her reputation on consistency, resilience and a deep love for the game of softball.
A third baseman known for handling hard-hit balls down the line, Landwehr approaches each at-bat with a clear mindset. “I take a deep breath and hunt for strikes to hit hard,” she said.
Her growth as a player is rooted in lessons learned beyond the field. Landwehr credits her father as her greatest inspiration. “He leads by example every day,” she said. “He’s taught me the importance of working hard, staying strong through challenges and never giving up on my goals.”
Those values carry into her role as a teammate. Landwehr said one of the most important aspects of the sport is maintaining respect for umpires and opponents while constantly encouraging teammates. “Always talking and hyping each other up makes a difference,” she said.
That energy is a defining trait of the team. Landwehr points to Tylee Rowe as the most vocal teammate, while Nina Glass “is always making everyone laugh no matter the circumstances.” She also praised Nora Glass for her reliability behind the plate. “She always has a dirty uniform, and we can count on her to make great plays,” Landwehr said.
For Landwehr, the relationships are just as meaningful as the competition. “I enjoy being part of the team because I get to do something I’m passionate about with people I love,” she said. “They never fail to pick me up when I’m down.”
Off the field, Landwehr enjoys spending time with friends and family and shopping. In the classroom, English is her favorite subject, and she credits teacher Mr. Doug for making her feel valued.
As she enters her senior year, Landwehr said athletics has shaped her mindset. “It’s taught me teamwork, perseverance and that if you’re not early, you’re late,” she said.
