BLACKWELL MAROONS

Coach: KENNY DAUGHERTY

2024-25 Record: 14-13

The Blackwell Maroons are embracing a fresh start and an exciting new direction this season. Under first-year head coach Kenny Daugherty, the Maroons are installing an up-tempo offensive system complemented by an aggressive, pressure-based defense. With only one returning starter from last season’s 14–13 squad, the team is young, hungry, and committed to playing with pace and intensity from opening night onward.

Leading the charge is senior Nik Flyingout (6-3, Sr.), the lone holdover in the starting lineup and the only senior on the roster. Flyingout’s versatility makes him one of the most important pieces in Daugherty’s system. Whether creating offense, defending multiple positions, or providing stability in crucial moments, he will be counted on heavily. His leadership, both vocal and by example, will play a major role in how quickly this young group matures.

Junior Cooper Lusk (6-7, Jr.) is poised to emerge as one of the breakout players in the conference. The left-hander continues to add strength and confidence to his game. His ability to score inside, stretch the floor, and protect the rim makes him a pivotal two-way threat. Lusk’s shot-blocking presence and improved physicality give the Maroons a much-needed anchor defensively, while his versatility allows him to slide comfortably between positions on offense.

Another key contributor is junior guard Bryson Ray (5-10, Jr.), one of the most dependable and coachable players on the roster. Ray brings energy, effort, and consistency every single day. Though often underrated, his willingness to do the small things, defending, facilitating, and making hustle plays, makes him invaluable to the team’s chemistry and identity.

Blackwell’s depth will be shaped by its strong junior and sophomore classes. Juniors Matteo Suriani (5-10, Jr.), Skylen Rogers (6-2, Jr.), and Jude Sappenfield (6-1, Jr.) all bring athleticism and competitiveness, while sophomores Gerald Trejo (6-0, So.), Charlie Childers (6-0, So.), and Owen Ashford (6-3, So.) provide additional size, energy, and long-term potential.

With a new system, a renewed culture, and a roster built on versatility and effort, the Maroons enter the season with optimism. If their young pieces settle in quickly, Blackwell has a chance to surprise opponents and build meaningful momentum under Coach Daugherty’s leadership.
