Blackwell Boys – Wrestling Spotlight – Presented by Bancfirst Blackwell

The Blackwell Maroons enter the new wrestling season with confidence, experience, and championship aspirations. Head Coach Connor Cline leads a program built on tradition and toughness, and this year’s squad may be one of the most talented groups the school has seen in recent years. With a lineup stacked with returning state placers and four state champions, expectations are naturally high. As Coach Cline said, “We are returning many state placers and four state champions. We are hopeful to win another dual state and team state championship.”

At the heart of the Maroons’ pursuit is senior Grant Rowe, a returning state champion and one of the most decorated wrestlers to come through Blackwell in recent memory. A leader on and off the mat, Rowe brings a calm, confident presence to the room and sets the standard for what it means to wrestle with pride in maroon.

Joining him is fellow state champion Garrett Short, who is coming off a dominant junior season. Short has the opportunity to place himself among Blackwell’s elite historical wrestlers, and his focus, strength, and relentless approach make him one of the most dangerous competitors in the state.

The Maroons’ future remains bright thanks to incoming freshman standout Rylan Sandoval. Entering high school as the current No. 1 wrestler at his weight, Sandoval is already showing the poise and maturity of a seasoned competitor. Coaches rave about his attitude, athleticism, and the excitement surrounding his development over the next four years.

Adding experience and depth is junior Andrew Young, a two-time state qualifier with his sights firmly set on becoming a state champion. Known for his consistency and strong leadership by example, Young’s mindset and work ethic elevate the level of the entire practice room.

Together, this core, supported by a roster filled with hungry competitors, positions Blackwell as a legitimate contender for both dual state and team state titles once again. With discipline, unity, and championship-caliber talent across the board, the Maroons look ready to continue their storied legacy and make this season another memorable chapter in Blackwell wrestling history.
