On any given afternoon in Pawnee, Oklahoma, you can find Lola Spears moving with purpose, either leading a fast break on the basketball court or lining up a steady shot on the golf course. A sophomore at Pawnee High School, Lola has already built a reputation as a disciplined, driven athlete who carries herself with quiet confidence.
As a point guard for her high school team, Lola controls the tempo of the game, reading defenses and creating opportunities. But her versatility shows even more in travel ball, where she shifts seamlessly between positions. That adaptability reflects hours of practice and a willingness to grow.
“I think what motivates me most is my parents, who push me to work as hard as I can in whatever I do with their full support.”
That work ethic paid off during a defining moment this season against Pawhuska. After struggling with her shot, Lola broke through with one of her best performances of the year, reminding herself what she was capable of.
Off the court, Lola’s schedule is just as full. She’s involved in Yearbook Club, Beta Club, Student Council, marching and concert band, and more. Balancing it all takes focus.
“Balancing school work and activities is a hard thing many student-athletes deal with, and one of the things I think it takes is discipline.”
She doesn’t do it alone. Lola credits influential people in her life, including her teacher, Mrs. Nicole Clymer, who has supported her both academically and personally.
“She has gone above and beyond… and has shown me what an amazing teacher is supposed to be.”
On her team, Lola values the players who don’t always get recognition, like teammate Libby Turner, whose defense and leadership anchor the group. And in practice, she’s pushed by teammates like Jaslene Garcia-Howell, who bring out her competitive edge.
For Lola, representing Pawnee is more than just wearing a jersey, it’s personal.
“Having always played with Pawnee my whole life brings me joy in my sports.”
With her drive, humility, and heart, Lola Spears is not just playing the game, she’s shaping her future, one play at a time.
