For Cason Johnson, representing Tonkawa High School is more than just wearing a uniform, it’s about honoring the community, his family, and his faith. The 11th grader splits his time between football, basketball, and baseball, taking on leadership roles as quarterback, point guard, and second baseman. Every game, every practice, every drill carries a single purpose: to get the win for his team.
“What motivates me is getting the win for my team,” Cason said.
Faith plays a central role in Cason’s life, shaping his perspective both on and off the field. “God is the most important because without Him, nothing is possible,” he added. This belief pairs seamlessly with his dedication to personal growth, an attitude he credits partly to Mr. Fath, his math teacher. “He always pushes us to be the best,” Cason said.
Cason understands that success doesn’t come overnight. Hard work and a relentless desire to improve define his approach. He can point to moments that reinforce that mindset, most notably, making it to the state championship in football. And while every victory matters, he thrives when facing ranked opponents, savoring the challenge of earning a win that truly counts. In practice, Cason finds equal inspiration in his peers. “I enjoy working against Loudyn Alexander because he pushes me, but I still give him the work,” he said with a grin.
He also recognizes the quiet contributions of teammates, especially Kayson Thompson, who often handles the unglamorous, essential work in both basketball and football. Beyond athletics, Cason stays involved with FCA, GATS, and student council, balancing his responsibilities with discipline and purpose. He credits his coaches, Coach Nagel, Coach Harmon, and Coach Been, for guiding him throughout the year and serving as role models.
On social media, Cason admires Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, appreciating both his skill on the court and the insight his posts provide. But above all, Cason values the support of his community. “It means everything for me to represent my community. They’re the ones there for me, so I will always give 100% effort in everything I do,” he said.
For Cason, success isn’t just about stats or trophies, it’s about dedication, faith, and the people who push him to be his best, every single day.
