For Ava Marsh, basketball has been more than a sport; it’s been a journey of growth, skill, and opportunity. Now a sophomore at Stillwater High School, Ava plays point guard for the girls’ varsity team, bringing both talent and determination to every practice and game. Her love for the game started young, fueled by her dad, who put her in competitive basketball opportunities as early as first grade.
Ava draws inspiration from some of the game’s most skilled players, modeling her style after Kyrie Irving. She admires his creativity, ball-handling, and ability to make every play look effortless, striving to bring that same artistry and precision to her own game. She also credits teachers like Ms. Seidel, her P.E. teacher in Claremore, Oklahoma, for encouraging her athletic pursuits and supporting her growth both on and off the court.
Success for Ava comes from a combination of hard work, watching and studying the game, and constantly seeking to improve her skills. Highlights in her young career include playing varsity minutes as an eighth grader in Mississippi, a milestone that showed her what dedication and preparation can accomplish. Now at Stillwater, she looks forward to helping her team succeed against every opponent on the schedule, learning from competitive matchups in practice, especially against teammates like Graycie Murray, who push her to elevate her game.
Though she is new to the school, Ava is excited about opportunities to get involved in clubs and activities outside of basketball. She also stays connected through social media, following friends and peers for encouragement and inspiration.
Balancing academics with athletics is something Ava approaches with care, knowing that good time management will be key as her schedule grows busier. Representing Stillwater High and the community as a Lady Pioneer is a responsibility she takes seriously. For Ava, every practice and game is a chance to make her school and city proud while doing what she loves most: playing basketball.
