Nola Ross is a junior out at Glencoe High School. She participates in softball, cheerleading, NHS, she’s the Vice President of her FFA chapter, the President of her 4-H club, and she also gives speeches and shows pigs. Nola is definitely what I would call an involved student with an impressive resume of activities!
Nola got her start in sports from her parents. They were her coaches in little league; teaching her how important it is to always give 110 percent and to never give up. Her favorite part about softball is when she’s out on the field and the rest just fades away. “It’s almost like I’m in my own world doing what I love,” Nola says. Her biggest role model is her mom because she always pushes Nola to do better and is her biggest cheerleader. “I can always count on her to be there,” she says. Her biggest positive impact has been her 4-H educator, Krystal Voight, because Krystal also pushes her to do better and gives her great advice.
Her favorite subject in school is her Ag class because she loves agriculture and getting to work on her Ag speech. This year, she plans to make it to state with her speech skills. Nola’s favorite teacher is her English teacher, Mrs. Eason. “Mrs. Eason is such a great role model and helps me with whatever I need her to,” she says. After high school, Nola plans to go to OSU to study pre-med and work towards becoming a radiologist. For fun, she likes to hang out with friends or spend time with her animals.
To be a great athlete, Nola says that you don’t have to be the most athletic; but you do need to put in time and be dedicated to your sport. When things get tough for her, she she reminds herself that she only has so much time to take advantage of her activities and and reminds herself to enjoy it. Nola’s advice to her fellow athletes is that it’s okay to fail; but that isn’t an excuse to give up.
