Ponca City Teacher : Letticia Deitas – Presented by First National Bank of Oklahoma

There are people that we come across in our lives that make a big impact on our lives. Whether they are someone that is a part of our everyday lives or someone that we just happen to interact with, the mark they leave can be long lasting.

Letticia Deitas says that her decision to become an educator was in big part because of someone like this that had an influence on her.
“I have always been passionate about helping others learn and grow,” she said. “When I was in high school, I was a peer tutor in Mrs. Meyers’ Special Education classroom. Watching the way she loved, cared for and challenged each and every one of her students was an inspiration and an everlasting impression. She had an impact beyond academics and more towards personal growth, which inspired me. I was beyond excited as an adult when I got to work with her before her retirement.”

Letticia teaches Special Education Severe and Profound Classroom at Ponca City High School. She served as a paraprofessional at PCPS for eleven years before becoming a classroom teacher two years ago.

While being a teacher can be a lot of work and is stressful at times, it also provides a number of special moments that make it worth it.

“The thing I enjoy most about being a teacher is witnessing and being a part of my student’s victories, big and little, and overcoming challenges.”

When she is not teaching, Deitas enjoys spending time with her family and doing things with them and supporting them in what they do.

“I am usually watching wrestling or cheer and dance competitions,” she said. “My children are all active in sports, so my spare time is dedicated to watching them do what they enjoy most. I have four children. Twin boys, Cameron and Christopher, and two daughters, Katrina and Donna. Cameron wrestles for Cowley College and Christopher wrestles for University of Michigan. Katrina is a Sophomore on the Po-Hi Drill Team and Donna is a first grader at Union.”
