Perry’s Lainey Hughey – Presented by First Bank and Trust Company

Athletes at all levels of competition have to be willing to invest time and effort so that they can be at their best when they step out on the field or court. Lainey Hughey plays multiple sports and she knows that the work she puts in helps her more than with just her athletics.

“It has taken a lot of long hours and years of practice for me to become the player that I am today,” she said. “Also building unbreakable bonds with my teammates. My biggest motivation to keep working is the desire to become a better version of myself each and every day.”

Hughey is a freshman at Perry High School, where she plays softball and basketball and also runs track. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the Student Council.

During her career, Lainey has made a lot of memories while competing. But she says that for her favorite memory, she would have to go back to when she first started playing softball.
“The highlight moment would have to be when I made my first catch in centerfield,” she recalled. “I was six years old and playing travel ball.”

Hughey has had a number of people in her life that have helped shape her into the person and athlete that she is today.

“My parents have been my biggest supporters from the very beginning,” she said. “Also, coach Bryan Hayes keeps me motivated and provides structured criticism, forming me to be the best athlete. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for all the love and support on and off the field. I also want to thank everyone for their time and dedication put in to help me live out my softball dream.”

No matter what sport she is playing at the time, Lainey always remembers who she is playing for.

“I don’t play for myself,” she stated. “I play for my teammates and when I step on that field, it gives me a sense of pride to wear my school uniform and represent my hometown.”
