Q&A with Perkins-Tryon’s Ashton Turpin – Presented by Perkins Primary Care

VYPE: What grade are you in?
Ashton: I am a senior at Perkins-Tryon. I am on the varsity cheer team and I am also in the colorguard.

VYPE: What sports and activities are you involved in?
Ashton: I am on the varsity cheer team and I am also in the colorguard.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that makes you a better person?
Ashton: My sport has taught me what it truly means to be a leader, it has made me into the person I am today. A hard worker in both school, and extracurricular activities.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?
Ashton: The teammate that left the biggest impression on me would be Aaliyah, she has been on the high school team with me since my freshman year, even though we were never close until this last year she definitely impacted my life as a cheerleader and person.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?
Ashton: My favorite teacher would be my freshman algebra teacher Ms. Taylor Smith. She always made me laugh when I was upset and actually cared for her students. If someone was struggling on something
she would find time to help them privately and to the best of her ability.

VYPE: Who inspires you?
Ashton: My manager at my job is one of my biggest inspirations. She’s always there for anyone who needs it, is always helping me with school, any problems I have, on top of going to college as a nursing student.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
Ashton: Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten from someone would be from my mom, and that was to try everything in high school and to not be focused on one thing freshman year and to never give up on something you love. If it weren’t for her I would not be where I am today.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Ashton: I just wanna say thank you to all of my coaches throughout my high school years, they’ve all done so much to help me become the person I am. I would also like to say thank you to my parents and grandparents for always being my biggest supporters. Also a great big thank you to my best friend and her mom, Hadley and Heather Moss. They have had a great impact on my life.
