Newkirk runner Brooklynne Reyes completed an interview with VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My personal goals for this year are to be able to make it to State, PR in my events from last year, and to make it a fun time with my teammates. I would love to be able to experience performing at State! I also would like to see growth in my performance from last year to this year. Overall, I want to have a good season with my teammates because I couldn’t last year.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
My favorite athletic memory is having a pool noodle fight with other teams at a track meet last year. It was a very fun time and really brought out the enjoyment everyone needed before competition.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me would be Peyton Banister. She helped push me in my events and would cheer me on whenever she could last year. She was always supportive and always in a good mood no matter what workout or race we had to do. She did make it to State last year which I am so proud of her for and I got to experience how hard she worked. I really appreciate that about her. She is the teammate I look up to.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part about being on this team is that I get to enjoy a sport with friends who know how to have a good time and can push me to be better as well.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’m involved in Newkirk Lady Tigers Softball, Newkirk High School Track, and Newkirk’s Gifted and Talented Program.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
My sport has taught me that even though sometimes things are hard you gotta push through if you want to succeed. Giving up will get you nowhere and that’s a lesson I’ll continue to use throughout my life.
VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?
The best advice anyone has given me is that confidence is key in anything you do. Whether it’s sports-related or life in general. Confidence is the best thing you can have to get you where you wanna be. If you don’t believe in yourself who else is going to?
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
The people who inspire me are Brooke and Bailey Backhaus. These girls have helped me through so much and are amazing people to look up to. They inspire me because they are great athletes, but overall amazing people. They always look on the bright side and see the best in people. These girls are truly admirable.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
I would like to say thank you to all my coaches throughout the years who have pushed me to be the best possible version of myself. I also want to thank my mom for always being my number one supporter in everything I do.
